A former chef instructor of Le Cordon Bleu of Pasadena and Hollywood, L.A., California (2006-2011). An individual activist in earth friendly projects, who are focusing on SlowFood movement, zero waste movement and organic/edible landscaping. She is the founder of Sincerely @sincerelymarket & @ku.su.ma.ku, and co-organizer of the Earth Festival in Surabaya. Indawati also serves as CFO of CV Kawi Jaya Makmoer and teaches culinary and entrepreneurship at Universitas Ciputra. With a culinary education from Southern California School of Culinary Arts and a business degree from USC, she is fluent in Indonesian and English, and conversational in several other languages.

MASTERCLASS WITH MASTERCHEF BRENT DRAPER

Thank you to the Australian embassy and Australian General Consulate interim of Surabaya Ms. Anthea for including me with their Taste of Australian event. The event stretched for 2 days and 3 separate activities with Chef Brent Draper, winner of Australian Master Chef 2023. We started with street food tasting doing “mlaku mlaku nang Tunjungan”, dining at Bakmie Jogya Trunojoyo, visiting historical Hotel Mojopahit, @locaahands_ restaurant for its fairly new refurbished heritage building, culturally important Pasar Blauran. It continued the next day for Chef Brent’s live cooking demo of Crusted Australian Lamb cutlets where I got the opportunity to be his sous and the event moderator translator in front of @uc_culinarybusiness culinary business students as audience. The Final event was the greatest where 15 of us got to enjoy his fine dining cooking at the event Kitchen take over with Chef Adrian of Confit restaurant. That was the best beef I have ever in Indonesia due to their unique cooking technique. @brentdraper_ and his lovely wife ShaunLeigh are two of the nicest, warm and passionate people I have ever met. What a perfect choice to pick him as the Australian food ambassador, looking forward to his future endeavor.

The idea of a farmers market where producers can sell their products directly to customers isn't new. Yet in Indonesia where the marketing of harvests is still ruled by intermediaries, it's somewhat unheard of.
However, you can find a farmers market called Earth Market Surabaya held monthly on a CBD at West Surabaya. Earth Market offers a chance of interacting directly with food & beverages purveyors, food and non-food artisans as well as local designers while enjoying the multicultural community that it offers. Chef Inda Kusuma is a facilitator, a Chef instructor, and also a slow-food organic movement activist.
Discover how Chef Inda Kusuma came up with the idea of a sustainable, educational and entertaining market environment. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

Event ini mengexplorasi apa saja yang bisa membuat kita menemukan makna dalam kegiatan yang kita lakukan setiap harinya, dengan merujuk kepada pemahaman arti kehidupan “ikigai” yang berasal dari Jepang, dimana ditemukan banyak orang yang berumur diatas 💯 tahun dan memiliki hidup yang bahagia. “ikigai” – a Japanese word meaning a reason to jump out of bed every morning.
Speaker: Chef Indawati Kusuma, a graduate of Southern California School of Culinary Arts and University of Southern California, LA who is also a founder of Sincerely Organic Farm Surabaya and Instructor for entrepreneurial program at Ciputra University Surabaya.
